The Abbey Tavern nestles against the ancient ruins of Howth Abbey, which dates back to the 11th century. The picturesque scenery of mountain and sea, with the beautiful fishing harbour and jewel-like islands of Lambay and Ireland's Eye below makes the Abbey Tavern an ideal spot in which to spend an evening in the genuine atmosphere of old Ireland.
The Tavern dates back to the 15th Century, when it was built for the local monks as a seminary, an addition to the old Chapter House (12th Century) next door.
The village of Howth has obvious antiquity and across the road from the Tavern is the old Martello Tower. These towers were built as look-outs during the 17th Century when the French were expected to invade.
The Abbey Tavern is a fully functioning bar and restaurant open 7 days a week. Why not try our all day bar food menu at the Abbey Tavern or maybe join us for dinner in our upstairs restaurant, the Loft Bar Grill.
